Iranian Maneuvers Coming Up

Are large-scale maneuvers a cover for a coming offensive?

Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said in an interview with FNA that five army divisions and seven independent brigades will take part in the wargames.

"The wargames will be conducted in the (Army's) southern zone and will be participated by different Ground Force units," Pourdastan added.

The commander stated that forces are due to exercise asymmetric confrontation against powerful enemy in the military drills.

"The wargames to be conducted through methods for asymmetric wars are meant to be an exercise for the mentioned divisions and brigades," the commander said.

He noted that All Ground Force units undergo 48 weeks of training each year and then pass field trainings carried out in 3 steps.

You wonder if this is going to be five divisions (roughly 15k each) all in the field at the same time, or if this is a CPX involving a lot of headquarters, and the reporters just don't know the difference.
